Compersion
Brand Exploration | A dating app for a diverse ecology of relationships | 2019 | view all creations
Explored brand identity for a dating app supporting diverse relationship ecologies.
Compersion was conceived as a dating app for people navigating or exploring non-traditional relationship structures — polyamory, open relationships, relationship anarchy, and other emergent relational models. I led an early-stage brand exploration to root the project in a visual and emotional identity that would resonate across a wide spectrum of identities and experiences.
As part of the process, I conducted market research across adjacent dating apps and social platforms, analyzing visual trends, tone, and positioning in both mainstream and alternative spaces. This research informed a brand direction that consciously moved away from over-sexualized or transactional aesthetics, instead prioritizing psychological safety, emotional nuance, and relational authenticity.
The visual identity included an initial logo, color palette, and mood-driven visual tone that reflected fluidity, warmth, and intentional softness. The goal was to create a brand that felt like an invitation—not just to date, but to explore, express, and relate in expansive and consensual ways.
