    About

Brookshire Media was Canadian media organization focused on financial news during the 2008 global financial crisis.

During this time, I helped launch a financial news network called “DEX.tv” and navigated a critical six month period – growing from a 10-person team producing a 30 minute broadcast a day, to expanding into a 100+ person team broadcasting 24 hours a day.

The role represented my first experience immersed in an early stage startup – learning how to be adaptable in my role and responsibilities as my capabilities rapidly evolved.

My work spanned writing segments and developing graphics on-air news, supporting the expansion of resourcing on the team, developing baseline digital asset management standards and processes, and designing the news station’s brand and digital presence.

Ironically, this company went bankrupt and faced legal action from the CFTC in the USA due to mismanagement by the owners.

This experience seeded my passion for financial literacy and deeper economic understanding.

  • Startup Weekend is a global grassroots movement of active and empowered entrepreneurs who are learning the basics of founding startups and launching successful ventures. It is the largest community of passionate entrepreneurs with over 1800 past events in 120 countries around the world in 2015.

  • Initially as part of a high school internship and eventually becoming a self-directed experience, I volunteered over 700 hours working with my local tv station in Durham, Ontario, Canada.

This experience represents the spark of my leadership philosophy due to its radically innovative decentralized model for collaboration (which I admire and have gratitude for to this day).

During this two year experience, I was able to writing scripts, reporting live on-air, produce lifestyle segments and operate camera and audio. The experience afforded incredible opportunity for autonomy and self-directed creativity – filling any production role I had the initiative to seek it out and learn.

  • In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, I helped to co-found Quaranteam.

Our behavior-change campaign was designed to help bring early awareness to the COVID pandemic and the need to dramatically change lifestyles during its onset. In the first two weeks of the pandemic, our #StayHomeSaveLives social media profile frames were used by over 15 million people worldwide.

The decentralized volunteer collective went on to produce a number of other projects, including a Virtual Memorial Guide and a hack-a-thon.

  • What is the future of virtual connection? In this time of quarantine and seclusion, what does it look like to push the boundaries of technology and experiment with new ways to experience authentic, meaningful human contact, relationship and play? We have barely begun to see what is actually possible in this space and how we can hack virtual interaction to help us make it through the age of isolation.

Erica, Patricia and Scarlet are the three visionaries behind Liminalia, disruptive event producers who are hacking virtual connection by creating unique participatory online experiences that blur the line between the physical and digital.

Their Immersiverse gatherings combine virtual connection with storytelling, theater, science fiction, absurdism, self-awareness, satire and humor to offer a brilliant meta-reflection on the insanity of the current state of the world, and transcend the limits of what is possible in the virtual space.

On Wednesday, September 9th, join us for a special interactive Consciousness Hacking event, where Scarlet, Erica and Patricia will share about their experience hacking connection and bringing people together in new and creative ways during quarantine. This event will be highly participatory, and will invite you to join in activities that demonstrate some of these innovative connection technologies.
